Early Life and Education

Baba Siddique was born on September 13, 1958, in Patna, Bihar, India. He completed his schooling at St. Anne's High School in Bandra and later pursued a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from M.M.K. College, Bandra.

Political Career

Baba Siddique's political journey began in 1977 when he joined the Indian National Congress (INC) as a teenager. He actively participated in various student movements and quickly rose through the ranks. In 1980, he became the General Secretary of the Bandra Taluka of the Bandra Youth Congress and was elected its president within two years.

In 1988, Siddique was elected as the president of the Mumbai Youth Congress. Four years later, he was elected as a Municipal Councilor in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation and was re-elected to the position five years later. He became an MLA in 1999 from the Bandra West Assembly Constituency and was re-elected in 2004 and 2009, serving three consecutive terms.

During his tenure, Siddique held several significant positions, including Minister of State for Food & Civil Supplies (FDA) and Labour under Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh from 2004 to 2008. He also served as the Chairman of the MHADA Mumbai Board from 2000 to 2004.

Personal Life

Baba Siddique was married to Shehzeen Siddique (formerly Alka Bindra), and they had two children, Arshia Siddique and Zeeshan Siddique. Arshia is a doctor, while Zeeshan followed in his father's footsteps and became a politician, elected as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in 2019.

Legacy

Baba Siddique's contributions to Maharashtra's political landscape were significant. He was known for his dedication to public service and his efforts to improve the lives of his constituents. His work in the areas of food and civil supplies, labour, and housing left a lasting impact on the state.

Recent Events

On February 8, 2024, Baba Siddique resigned from the Indian National Congress and joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on February 12, 2024. Tragically, he was assassinated on October 12, 2024, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, at the age of 66.
